IMPORTANT UPDATE: Unfortunately, the Temptation ownership in the Miches property was sold in early 2024. There are numerous rumors as to why this occurred, but the true impact is that the Desire and Temptation ownership and style of management, which create the lifestyle friendly environments, are no longer in place at Miches. We are leaving our trip review below online for historical purposes, and because the information about the property and rooms may still be helpful for others still interested in visiting the resort under its new ownership.
“The showers actually had a really cool feature where the exterior glass wall of each shower faced out towards the pool side or tropical side of the buildings. The glass is frosted, but at night you can clearly make out the silhouettes and shadows of people taking or playing in the showers. It was a lot of fun strolling through the middle of the property after sunset and watching all the shower shows.”
About the Temptation Miches Resort in Dominican Republic!
Temptation Miches and Temptation Grand Miches are two brand new lifestyle friendly resort properties that opened in December of 2022. Both properties are located in Miches, Dominican Republic and they are owned and operated by The Original Group, which also owns Temptation Cancun and the two Desire Resorts just south of Cancun. One important thing to point out is that both of the Miches resorts are co-located on the same property. The Temptation Miches side is larger, and the atmosphere is similar to the Temptation Cancun experience. The Temptation Grand Miches side is smaller, more intimate and provides an atmosphere closer to the Desire resorts.
Why we decided to visit Temptation Miches: One of our good friends had a milestone birthday in February and decided that she wanted to go to the new Temptation Miches resort to celebrate. We were already looking at a potential trip to Temptation Miches at some point in 2023, so it was an easy decision to join them for their celebration. We were also excited to check out a new Temptation themed resort after visiting Temptation Cancun multiple times.
An Overview of the Resort: As mentioned earlier, the new Temptation Miches resort is located in Miches, Dominican Republic. The city of Miches is approximately 100 km or 60 miles west of Punta Cana, and the drive from the airport to the resort takes about 75-85 minutes.
The Temptation Miches resort sits on a large piece of land and is more spread out and spacious when compared to the Temptation Cancun resort. The resort has a beautiful beachfront and the coastline to either side of the resort is natural and untouched as far as you can see in both directions. The resort has a large main building that hosts the spa, fitness center, restaurants, shops, lobby, and the party and stage area where the nightly theme parties are held. There are 6 additional buildings that house the 382 guest rooms, and these buildings extend away from the main building toward the beach and surround the party pool area located in the center. We kept a property map that they gave to us at check-in, and we added some extra information to better understand where important areas and rooms are located. We will refer to this map at different times during this writeup as we talk about or reference different areas or topics.
We had a nice breeze and fantastic weather every single day of our trip. We were there in mid-February, and we had highs in the mid 80’s (27-29 C) during the day and lows in the mid 70’s (21-24 C) at night. There were a few occasional pop-up showers in the late afternoons, but these only lasted a few minutes and are very typical for Caribbean destinations.
There are two pools at the resort. The main pool (also known as the Sexy Pool), is in the center of the property and is surrounded by the main building and the 6 guest room buildings. The Sexy Pool location is very convenient to all 6 room buildings, so your walk to the pool will be relatively short regardless of where your room is located. The second pool (also known as the Quiet Pool) is located at the north end of the property and is the last area of the resort before you get to the beach. This pool is labeled as a quiet pool because the playmakers and music are not regularly stationed there for entertainment. However, the space between the sexy pool and quiet pool is an open area and you can still hear the music from the sexy pool. The crowd at the quiet pool is also lively and many guests would spend time between both pools throughout the day. The quiet pool is in a great location with views and proximity to the beach, so it felt more like a beach bar pool instead of a traditional quiet pool that you might see at other resorts.
The main building is large and hosts the spa, fitness center, shops, lobby, sports bar, restaurants, and the stage area where the nightly theme night events are held.
Lobby: The lobby area is very spacious and offers multiple lounge areas to sit, relax, and talk with friends. Inside the lobby is a great bar that provided a nice break from the action during theme night parties and a coffee shop with snacks and pastries. The lobby bar was very convenient whenever we wanted to take a breather, have a few minutes of quiet, or step away from the party to conversate with other people.
Restaurants: All the sit-down restaurants are in the main building. The Steakhouse (Flame) and Asian restaurant (Sutra) are located on the second floor and the Italian (Romanza) and multicultural buffet (Rain) are located on the first floor. There’s also another restaurant named She located on the first floor. She is a couple’s restaurant that offers sexy entertainment during dinner. We enjoyed the food at all 5 restaurants, but our favorites were Sutra and SHE.
Fitness Center and Spa: We did not visit the spa on this trip, but we did take a short tour and it looked very nice. We did workout in the fitness center several times and it was nicely sized and offered a good mix of cardio equipment, machines, free-weights, dumbbells, and floor equipment. The fitness center was always staffed with a trainer for anyone that needed assistance during their workout.
Sports Bar: The sports bar was pretty much dead the entire trip. It was so empty that the entertainment staff used it during the day to rehearse their routines. The bar was nice and had plenty of room, but we got the sense that it only gets used by guests if the weather is bad and people are forced to come indoors.
Shops: The resort has one small gift shop onsite that offers a mix of adult toys, sexy clothing, snacks, medicine, and toiletries.
Stage and Party Area for Theme Nights: The area dedicated to theme night parties was very nice and had plenty of space for guests to dance and have fun. The layout is very similar to Temptation Cancun and included a stage for shows/dancing and large outdoor bar. The lighting and sound system were awesome and there were plenty of tables and seating areas surrounding the dance floor. A nice buffet style food area was located right next to the party area and offered a wide range of late-night snacks. The food area also had tables and seating in case you wanted to sit and eat your food there.
Pools: The sexy pool is the large main pool located in the center of the resort. This is where the music, games, and entertainment take place during the day. The pool is very large and there’s a swim up bar inside the pool and a walk-up bar outside the pool. There are tons of lounge chairs surrounding the pool, but most people just use the chairs to drop off their bags and spend the bulk of their time in the pool. The quiet pool is at the beach end of the resort and offers the best views and sounds of the ocean. The quiet pool is smaller than the sexy pool, but it’s still good sized and felt like it was just as lively because people were forced to be closer together due to the smaller size. The pool is technically called the quiet pool, but it was definitely more lively than other quiet pools that we’ve visited at other resorts. Another thing to note is there are no hot tubs yet. We were told they would be adding a hot tub to the property but as of our trip they did not have one available.
Guest Rooms and Suites: All of the guest rooms are in buildings 1 to 6 and each building has a total of three floors (See property map for reference). There are three main room types at Temptation Miches. The first one is your standard room, which can be booked with a pool view or tropical view. The second room type is swim up, which are standard sized rooms located on the first floor of buildings 4 and 6. These swim up rooms offer a tropical or pool view and have a semi-private pool that runs along the front side and back side of the building that is directly accessible from the patio. The third room category is the master suite rooms, which are located at the end of buildings 4 and 6 and located closest to the beach. There are only 10 master suite rooms in total, but these rooms have important differences which we will go into in more detail below.
Standard Rooms: Most of the rooms at the resort will fall into the standard room category. These rooms offer a pool facing view or a tropical facing view. The tropical facing rooms in buildings 5 and 6 are real tropical views and face the untouched natural area on that side of the resort. The tropical facing rooms in buildings 1, 2, 3, and 4 do offer tropical views, but also face the Grand Miches resort property right next door. If you prefer a tropical view with maximum privacy, then buildings 5 and 6 would be recommended. The standard rooms located on the first floor have a patio area and the ones on the second and third floors have a balcony. These rooms are equipped with a king or two double beds, double sinks, a large rain shower, and a 48” TV. We thought the standard rooms were very nice and spacious.
Swim Up Rooms: The swim up rooms are essentially standard rooms, but have a semi-private pool that is accessible directly from the room’s patio area. These rooms are on the first floor of buildings 4 and 6 and offer pool and tropical views. The pool is semi-private because it’s one long pool (like a lazy river) that runs alongside the building and all of the swim up rooms on each side share access to this pool. The swim up rooms on the pool view side are more convenient to accessing the sexy pool or the main walkways that run through the center of the property. However, there isn’t much privacy when you are in your swim up pool. The swim-up rooms with a tropical view offer much more privacy if that’s desired. Also, the swim up pools are not heated, so the water can be somewhat chilly in the evenings or early mornings.
Master Suite Rooms: There are 10 total master suite rooms, and they are all located at the end of buildings 4 and 6 facing the ocean. There are 2 penthouse style suites with private hot tubs, 4 master suites with private hot tubs, and 4 master suites with swim-up private pools. The 2 penthouse suites are located on the 3rd floor (1 in each building). These are the largest rooms on the property, have two full bathrooms, a living room area, huge decks, and a private hot tub on the deck. Then you have 4 master suites with private hot tubs (2 in each building). These rooms are located on the second floor and are also large and spacious. We booked one of these rooms for our trip and it was truly awesome. These rooms also have living room and bar area, an extra guest ½ bathroom, and a large private hot tub on the deck. Last but not least, you have 4 master suites on the first floor (2 in each building) and these have private swim up pools. The room layouts of the 8 master suites on floors 1 and 2 are the same, apart from the hot tubs versus private pools. All of the master suites come with butler service, and we used this service a lot during our trip. Our butler made dinner reservations for our group, brought ice to the room in the evenings, brought us liquor, beer, and mixers whenever we wanted them, and made sure we had anything we needed for the entirety of the trip. Some of the other room types also include butler services as well, but you have to pay a little extra for that level of service.
Thoughts on the Room Types and Locations: The property map is a good guide to reference when discussing the rooms and the locations. We would suggest opening that up as you read through this section. First off, we thought that all the rooms were nice, spacious, and they all had the same sized showers and bathrooms. The showers actually had a really cool feature where the exterior glass wall of each shower faced out towards the pool side or tropical side of the buildings. The glass is frosted, but at night you can clearly make out the silhouettes and shadows of people taking or playing in the showers. It was a lot of fun strolling through the middle of the property after sunset and watching all the shower shows.
The standard rooms are located in all 6 buildings, and each building and each floor level have their own pluses and minuses. The buildings closest to the central main building offer the shortest walk to the lobby, restaurants, amenities, and the party area. They are also closet to the sexy pool. However, the music noise from the nightly parties and from the sexy pool are louder there due to the proximity to those two areas. The noise levels dissipate as you move further away from the main building and sexy pool, but that also increases your walking distance to those two areas. On the flip side, you will be closer to the beach and quiet pool. The third and second floor rooms are pretty much equivalent and have the same sized balconies. The tropical side rooms will provide more privacy and help with sound noise and the pool side rooms give you a livelier experience and better people watching.
The master suites are very nice and have the best views of the beach, have the least noise at night, and are located very close to the quiet pool. They also come with private swim up pools or private hot tubs. In fact, the 2 penthouse rooms and 4 second floor master suites are the only rooms on the property that have hot tubs. These tubs are very large and have hot and cold water sources. The water in the tub is not heated continuously, but you can drain the tub to about 1/3 full and then fill it back up with only hot water. This gets the water just right and you can do this each evening whenever you want to use it. The 4 master suites with private swim up pools are also nice, but even though the swim up pools at those rooms are exclusive and private, the water is not heated and there isn’t much privacy when you are using the pools. There are no fences around the pool and anyone walking by can see your entire pool area. Based on our experience, we thought the rooms with private hot tubs were by far the best rooms and offered amazing views, great accommodations, and great privacy whenever you were on your deck and using the hot tub.
Buildings 4 and 6 also have first floor swim up rooms, which are standard sized rooms with semi-private pools that come right up to the patio areas. These are nice and fun, but there is very little privacy on the pool view side. People are constantly walking by throughout the day and night, and everyone can see the pool area. The tropical view rooms with the swim up pools are much more private. You still have neighbors that could be using their pools beside you, but you don’t have all of the foot traffic and people walking by as compared to the pool side rooms.
Vibe of the Resort: We knew going into the trip that the resort was brand new and that things would not be fine tuned and 100%. We anticipated some growing pains for staff and for the property and we were correct on those assumptions. Some of the rooms were still under construction, but they did a good job minimizing the work and construction noise to times when people were out of their rooms and at the pool. Not all the restaurants were open each day and they would often run out of items on the menu. The food was good, and we enjoyed our meals. The staff were also enthusiastic and worked very hard, but some struggled with English, and we sometimes would receive the wrong food and drink orders. They were very quick to make things right and we know that things will improve as they get more experience.
The resort itself is very nice and has a great layout. However, the resort was only ½ full during our trip and this made the sexy pool and resort feel a bit empty. We believe this will improve over time and we look forward to being at the resort with full occupancy. One thing that was nice is that guests from the Grand Miches side are allowed to visit the Temptation side. This increased the attendance during the nightly theme parties, and we got to meet a lot of great couples from the Grand side. Unfortunately, guests on the Temptation side are not allowed to visit the Grand side, but we did get to take a tour of the Grand property and it was very nice.
Lifestyle Scene at the Resort: We’ve been to the Dominican on vacations in the past and during each trip we often met couples from Europe. This trip was no different and there were numerous couples from a variety of European countries. We also met a good number of Americans, Canadians, and couples from different parts of South America. We did meet several lifestyle couples on our trip, but it felt like there were more non-lifestyle couples there than not. We also got the same feedback from the people we met on the Grand side. They also stated that there were far less lifestyle couples staying at the Grand side when compared to a Desire resort. The mix of lifestyle people at these two resorts may increase as time goes on, but there’s also the potential that the resort will continue to draw a diverse set of guests from Europe and South America that are primarily looking for a lively topless optional resort and not as much interested in the lifestyle. Either way the crowd and mix of people were great and there was no judgement from anyone. We had a really great time and hope to go back at some point in 2024 or beyond.
With respect to people going topless and how sexy you can get in public or at the pool, we were happy to see that the vast majority of women were topless, and no one seemed to care if you were playing or fully naked on your balcony or your patio. The poolside games were a little more reserved than what we’ve experienced in Cancun, but the playmakers were still learning the ropes and we got the sense that things will ramp up over time. The theme night shows and parties were almost identical to those in Cancun and we saw a ton of hot and sexy outfits each night.
Tips and Tricks
Tip 1: Make sure to use a proven and reputable company for transfers to and from the airport. We booked directly with Punta Cana Limousine Transfer, which is the same company used by the resort if you book directly through Temptation. The drivers were very professional, and we rode in nice Chevy Tahoe’s each way. One of our friends used a discount company and they said their driver stopped once to pee on the side of the road and stopped a second time to buy drugs from a guy on a moped. They made it safely but were a bit nervous the entire ride. Also, our ride from the airport to the resort was very scenic and nice, but we did drive through a lot of open country along the way. Our transfers to the resort and back to the airport were both during the daytime, but we met a few people that arrived in the evening, and they said the ride at night was a bit scary due to the lack of streetlights.
Tip 2: We recommend bringing a bathing suit, a shirt or cover up, and flip-flops or sandals in your carry-on bag. This allows you to change into your pool wear and enjoy the pool if your room isn't ready when you arrive or if you have issues with your luggage.
Tip 3: A lot of people (us included) bring Yeti style cups to use at the pool. We like to use the medium sized Yeti's so they are not too heavy to hold while standing and talking to people at the pool. Some people use just a lid and drink from the cup and others use a lid with a rubber straw. Either option works and the cups help keep your drinks cold and the lids keep the pool water from splashing into your drinks! We also decorate our cups with our names and funny sayings, which helps people remember who you are and helps break the ice when meeting new people.
Tip 4: The resort is in a remote area and there are no stores or shopping areas within walking distance. The bars at the resort do not have energy drink mixers like red bull or monster. If you like to use these drinks as mixers, you will need to bring them with you in your luggage and take them to the bar when they make your drinks. We often bring a 4 or 6 pack with us in our luggage and then keep them in our mini-fridge.
Tip 5: Bring a portable speaker and maybe some decorations for the room. We brought a speaker and some party lights for our room and they were a hit. It definitely set the mood when people came back to the room to hang out or get into the hot tub.
Tip 6: If you are interested in a master suite and not sure which style room to book, we highly recommend the second-floor master suites with the private hot tubs. The hot tubs are huge, you have hot water to keep them warm, and you have privacy if you want it.
Tip 7: The beach was very nice and beautiful. We had no issues during the day, but we did have problems with sand fleas or no-see-ums in the late afternoon when the sun started to set. We recommend bringing some bug spray just in case you plan to spend time on the beach.
